DOUBLE BURGER DOUBLE DATE PART 1
THE STORY
Walking into the Black Iron Burger Shop, one would think it has been there for decades. However, this East Village burger joint has only recently opened. The menu is simple; burgers (beef, turkey or falafel), fries and onion rings and all their burgers are cooked on a Keating Miraclean griddle. Apparently the flat surface allows for a unique and is also easy to clean. First I had heard of one but my wife and I were about to find out while on (the first of 2) double burger date with our friend's Aaron and Jay. After selecting a micro brew from their mostly locally made beer list, we were off to the races.
THE BURGER
The specialty burger of the house is the "iron horse" (hence the little friend we brought with us) which is a double patty with horseradish cheese and grilled onions and all 4 of us ordered it. The burger was a little over cooked but bursting with juicy goodness. The cheese had a strong flavor but I thought it complemented the burger which was slightly overcooked. The toasted sesame seed bun provided an ample structure and flavor. The fries were good but the onion rings were out of this world! They tasted not unlike the famous Bloomin' Onion at the Outback Steakhouse.
Marisol, our server, took great care of us along with the bartender, Drew, who made a Burger Conquest first, our first ever buy back! Thanks to both of you, I hope we ponied up a respectful tip!

It was great to meet you! I'm glad you had a good time...See you again soon, I hope...
ReplyDeleteHell yeah! I loved this place. The atmosphere is great and the food was delicious. I'm so glad we went there and can't wait to go back and bring more friends. Dad, if you're reading this, we're going there next time you're in town. I'd definitely order the Iron Horse burger again but there are a couple things I'd do different: more onion rings and more red wine to go with the excellent burger. They have yummy beers listed behind the bar but you have to ask for wine. Bring it and keep 'em coming.
ReplyDeleteI agree about more onion rings -- they were amazing! And the burger was juicy and delicious. The horseradish cheese was a great, savory treat.
